M is still working her way thru The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading. I love this book and it builds good phonics foundations. But every so often, I've learned to take a break, pull out the collection of colorful first readers that I have and we read thru those for a few weeks before going back to 'the reading book.' M informed me this morning that she likes reading the easy readers over 'the reading book' because the easy readers have pictures. "The reading book doesn't have pictures so I have to make them up. And sometimes, they come out a little wonky."
